Wii U owners have had a difficult time lately, with cancellations and delays of highly-anticipated titles. First came the news that Project Cars would be unlikely to appear on the console, with developer Slightly Mad Studios citing difficulties bringing the game beyond 23 FPS. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is going to skip Nintendo’s system – even though the title is going to be released on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Thankfully, there have still been a number of upcoming projects that promise to bring Nintendo fans more thrilling game experiences. Chief amongst these is Devil’s Third, a hack and slash-meets-third person shooter hybrid from Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive legend Tomonobu Itagaki. Promising to bring together a huge number of customizable weapons and an in-depth martial arts system, Devil’s Third looked to be the hardcore gamer’s go-to Wii U title.

Although news on Devil’s Third had been thin on the ground, Wii U owners looking forward to the Valhalla Games exclusive now have cause for celebration. Nintendo has given a finite release date for the title, and it’s sooner than many would have expected. According to the official Nintendo UK Twitter page, Devil’s Third is going to see a release on August 28.

Although the release date is only for the European version of Devil’s Third, gamers looking forward to the title worldwide will be unlikely to have long to wait. With localization on the game clearly expected to be complete for August, it’s doubtful there will be long delays before a North American release date is announced.

It’s wasn’t only the European launch of Devil’s Third that was unveiled to the public, either. Alongside the release date announcement, Nintendo also revealed a brand new gameplay trailer for the Valhalla Games title, hosted by Itagaki himself. The trailer, which was released on YouTube, may be Japanese-only, but still shows plenty of action from Devil’s Third, including elements from both the game’s single player and multiplayer modes.
