Home appliance manufacturer Frigidaire has released the first iOS and Android app controlled window air conditioner. The Cool Connect Air Conditioner connects with the Frigidaire Smart Appliance app across the Internet and through a local area Wi-Fi network, which lets consumers control the unit from their smart device, including generating a schedule for operation, receiving maintenance alerts, and remote unit status monitoring.
Frigidaire claims that 62 percent of its users want to control an air conditioner from a mobile device. The unit is an 8,000 BTU system, and will efficiently cool rooms up to 350 square feet. Additionally, the air conditioner has a “clean air ionizer” which the company claims will “remove pollen and impurities from the air” when energized.
The $350 unit is available now, and includes a conventional infrared remote, as well as compatibility with Frigidaire’s Wi-Fi app for wireless control.
