A dramatic feature based on Cynthia Wade’s award-winning short documentary “Freeheld,” the film is based on the true story of New Jersey car mechanic Stacie Andree (Page) and her police detective girlfriend Laurel Hester (Moore), who both battled to secure Hester’s pension benefits after she was diagnosed with a terminal illness.
Directed by Peter Sollet (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) from a screenplay by Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia), the film co-stars Steve Carell (Foxcatcher, “The Office”) and Michael Shannon (“Boardwalk Empire,” Man of Steel). Lionsgate will release Freeheld on October 2.
