It has been just over a month since Tom Holland was cast as the new Spider-Man for Marvel Studios and Sony’s upcoming collaborative effort. Before the web slinger returns to theaters in his own film though, he’ll be making his debut in Captain America: Civil War.
The extent of his appearance has yet to be officially disclosed, but in an interview with Vulture, Vacation writers and directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein reveal that at least part of it has been shot and they’re going to Marvel Studios this weekend to check it out.
“We hear good things,” Goldstein said. “We might even get to look at the Spidey suit, which is exciting.”
Goldstein also addressed rumors about a cast list for the film that has been making the rounds online, saying: “We’ve discussed certain characters, but nothing is certain yet, for sure.”
Goldstein and Daley will pen the script for the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, which has director Jon Watts behind the camera and is set for release July 28, 2017.
Set for release in the United States on May 6, 2016, Captain America: Civil War features a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and will be directed once again by Anthony & Joe Russo. It is set to feature the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, this time joined in his “solo” film by fellow Avengers Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. Sebastian Stan will also be back as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier alongside Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Martin Freeman in a mystery role.
Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
