Variety reports that Frank Grillo is in final negotiations to return for The Purge 3, the next installment of the Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions franchise coming to theaters on July 1, 2016.
Grillo starred in the second film, The Purge: Anarchy, which earned $110.6 million on a budget of just $9 million last year. “Anarchy” also starred Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez and Keith Stanfield.
“The Purge” series creator James DeMonaco is again writing and directing the new film. Jason Blum is producing with Sebastien Lemercier and Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller through their Platinum Dunes.
The trade says that scheduling problems with his DIRECTV show “Kingdom” threatened the possibility of Grillo reprising his role. Those issues have been worked out and Grillo will now be able to shoot The Purge 3 starting in September.
Grillo can be seen reprising his role of Crossbones in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. He also has roles in Beyond Skyline and Stephanie.
