As part of its recently-announced corporate restructuring, Google will be parting ways with Niantic Labs, creators of the Ingress and Field Trip apps. Google will now be part of the larger Alphabet parent company.
While companies like Nest will remain under the Alphabet umbrella, Niantic will spin out to be a completely separate company.
Niantic’s Ingress is a multi-player game that uses augmented reality to make the real word the playing field. The company’s Field Trip app offers crowd-sourced suggestions on local attractions and businesses.
