Android-powered flip-phones are all the rage now with Korean manufacturers. LG announced its ‘Wine Smart’ clamshell smartphone just a couple of weeks ago and today, Samsung has unveiled its latest dual screen flip phone, the G9198. It’s the follow up to its G9098 launched in China last year and if the spec sheet is anything to go by, this could be an impressive device, although it might not see release outside Asia.

Samsung’s latest creation has two 3.9-inch, 1280×768 resolution Super AMOLED displays; one on the outside, and the other revealed underneath when flipped open. That’s an impressive pixel density of 382ppi. Powering the phone is a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, similar to the one found in the LG G4, paired with Adreno 418 graphics. On the back is a 16MP camera with f/1.9 aperture (similar to the Galaxy S6), complimented by a 5MP front facing snapper. It has 16GB of internal storage (expandable to 64GB extra) and has a 2,020mAh battery to keep it running. As with virtually all phones in this form factor, it has a standard T9 keyboard for typing.

Samsung is expected to release the G9198 in China later this month, although we don’t have any specifics on pricing yet. There’s also no word on whether we might see it released in Europe or North America. This could be where LG has the competitive advantage with its ‘Gentle’ or ‘Wine Smart’ phone. Samsung’s Korean competitors have already announced that the phone will be available in Europe and the US soon.
