Opera Mini Now Lets Android Users Select Compression Mode

Opera MiniOpera Software’s latest version of Opera Mini for the Android platform allows owners to choose from two different compression settings.

The updated app includes high-compression mode, which squeezes data but leaves web page formatting intact. Opera suggests it is best for WiFi or 3G surfing. The extreme-compression mode more dramatically compresses web pages and may alter how they appear on phone screens. Opera suggests this mode is best-suited to surfing slow networks or to maximize data savings.

In addition to the new compression options, Opera Mini has a revised user interface for saving pages and bookmarks, handles downloads better in high-compression mode, includes an overhauled tab switcher and private browsing mode, and adds options for customizing the browser layout for finger-friendly surfing.

Last, Opera Mini is now better able to scale between smartphones and tablets, and updates to the Discover feed add more of the latest content.

Opera Mini is free to download from the Google Play Store.
