Lifetime has announced the cast and more details for “Project Runway Junior,” its spinoff of its popular fashion designer competition series that premieres Nov. 12.
Similar to its predecessor except for a key age requirement, the new series concentrates on 13-to-17-year-olds hoping to impress judges with their designs based on each week’s challenges. The 12 contestants for season one, who are listed below, come mostly from cities and coastal states with a few candidates from flyover states.
In addition to the set judging panel of Kelly Osbourne, “Project Runway” season 4 winner Christian Siriano and Cosmopolitan and Seventeen Magazine executive fashion editor Aya Kanai, Lifetime has confirmed that actress/It girl Bella Thorne will be a guest judge for the final challenge, which will air on Feb. 4.
“Project Runway” favorite Tim Gunn serves as mentor and he cohosts with supermodel Hannah Davis.
Lifetime has also announced that Michelle Obama will present the challenge for the Dec. 10 episode. That project, which works with Lands’ End, will support Let Girls Learn. A new whole-of-government Presidential Initiative, the initiative includes a collaboration with the Peace Corps that helps adolescent girls around the world go to school and stay in school. The “Project Runway Junior” contestants will create a design that will be used and sold on LandsEnd.com.
In the series, the young fashionistas are not only vying for the honor of being the first-ever “Project Runway Junior” winner. That title also comes with a full scholarship to California’s Fashion Institute of Design and Marketing (FIDM) a complete home sewing and crafting studio provided by Brother, a feature in Seventeen Magazine and a $25,000 cash prize to help launch their line.
