Verizon has introduced a new mobile device, shortly after bringing out a new tier of service for its subscribers. The Netgear AirCard 791S Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot is being made available under the name Verizon Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot, while the updated service plans the carrier launched early last month is increasing from a choice of four to five, with the addition of a new top-tier plan offering more data at a higher monthly cost.
The Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot is the first to support the carrier’s 4G LTE network, with it capable of sharing the connection with up to 15 devices over Wi-Fi simultaneously, with 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands supported. The front display allows users to switch between 3G and 4G networks, with the hotspot said to be capable of supporting faster speeds than the network is currently able to offer. Battery life for the device is said to be up to 24 hours of total usage, with up to a month on standby, and it can also be used to charge smartphones and other devices.
Verizon is selling the Jetpack AC791L 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot for $49 after a $50 rebate with a new two-year contract, or at a full price of $199.
Last month, Verizon introduced new Verizon Plan, with S, M, L, and XL sizes offering between 1GB and 12GB of shareable data for a base cost of between $30 and $80 per month. The newest tier, XXL, offers 18GB of data for $100, with extra data priced at $15 per 1GB. As with other tiers, there are monthly line-access charges for up to ten devices on an account, with smartphones costing $20 extra, tablets and Jetpack hotspots for $10 per month, and connected devices including smartwatches for $5 per month.
