Facebook is pushing an update to its search tool in order to make topics and conversations easier to find.
The tool expands beyond the borders of users’ immediate friends and family, and will search through all of Facebook to see what people are saying about any given subject or event. Search FYI makes several core changes.
First, it will include better, more personal search suggestions based on the user’s entire circle. Search results will now deliver public posts, as well as posts from friends, that are organized by topic so the main storyline is evident.
Last, when a specific link is shared widely across Facebook, users will be able to search for and join any public conversations related to the link. People will only be able to see posts shared directly with them, or those that are made public. Users will still be able to limit the audience for their posts however they wish.
Search FYI is being added to the Android and iOS mobile apps, as well as Facebook on the web.
