Google Wallet now lets people send money to others using only a phone number.
The app has supported the ability to send money via email for a long time. The new feature is meant to make sure those without email addresses can be paid, too. Recipients receive a text message with a secure link. Following the link, recipients enter their debit card number to claim the cash, which is added to their bank account within minutes.
Google said the feature will arrive in an update to the Android and iOS apps over the next few days. Google Wallet is a tool for sending money to others and managing the Google Wallet debit card. It can no longer be used to make retail payments, which are now handled by Android Pay.
