The first wave of DLC arrives today for Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, titled Jack the Ripper. Obviously, the expansion focuses on the Frye twins as they hunt down the notorious serial killer as he continues his search for more victims in London. As expected, Ubisoft released a trailer for the new content, but this one’s different: The company used YouTube’s 360-degree feature to enhance the experience.
Instead of you staying in one place for the entire trailer, the video constantly moves from one location to another, as if you’re on a ride. A black bird, presumably a crow, guides you as it flies through the abandoned hallways of a hospital and then moves to a room where Jack the Ripper fights Jacob Frye. After that, you fly over the street, where you see Jack’s latest victim before entering another room where he begins planning for his next target — Evie Frye.
The idea of 360-degree video was first introduced on YouTube in March as an experimental feature. At the time, only a handful of videos were able to use it. However, the step is a logical one, with VR rapidly coming to the fore, and in just a few months, the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive HMDs are expected to launch.
