Marvel Entertainment and Netflix (via EW) have released the first official photos from Marvel’s Daredevil Season 2!
Both new images actually have a basis in the pages of Marvel Comics as well, with the first being a near direct translation from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Punisher MAX #3, which sees the title killer give Daredevil an ultimatum, watch him kill someone or shoot him before he can. The other seemingly has roots in a sequence from Daredevil: Yellow #3, wherein Matt uses his gifts to hustle at pool, a talent that his mentor Stick also took part in in the pages of Frank Miller’s Daredevil run. Check out the new images in the gallery and compare them to the frames which we’ve added below!
EW also spoke with new showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez who said that the new season of the series starts with a bang.
“The advantage of any sequel is you can dive right in,” Petrie says. “We hit the ground running and then we ran as fast as we f—ing could.”
Regarding Jon Bernthal’s turn as The Punisher in the series, Petrie said they’re going to use the morality of both Frank Castle and Matt Murdock to mess with the audience’s mind.
“Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves. Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s–t. We have not shied away from the rich complicated reality of Now. If you’ve got a gun and you’re not the police you’re going to incite strong feelings. We’re stirring the pot and we’re aware of the headlines where we live and we’re trying to get people to think.”
In addition, Elodie Yung’s Elektra was brought up, who will also challenge Matt’s moral compass.
“Matt’s a deeply moral complicated guy and she’s just the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have,” Petrie says. “She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.”
Marvel’s Daredevil season two will feature the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock (who moonlights as The Man Without Fear), Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Scott Glenn as Stick and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple. The new season will also see Jon Bernthal debut as Frank Castle (aka the Punisher) with Elodie Yung also set to appear, playing the deadly assassin Elektra Natchios.
Marvel’s Daredevil is Executive Produced by Doug Petrie (American Horror Story, Buffy The Vampire Slayer), Marco Ramirez (DaVinci’s Demons) and Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, Lost), along with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s Jessica Jones.)
