Apple has updated its website to include cars that support its entertainment system, CarPlay. Before now, there has been no dedicated list of vehicles that support the system. The list, seen below, shows the make and models that support the dashboard system. It also includes the next vehicles to get the system. Among the makers adding the system in 2016 and 2017 are Audi, Cadillac, Ford, and Volvo are only a few of the names that will support CarPlay in 2016 and 2017.
This list will be continuously updated with other automobile manufacturers that support the system.
Apple’s CarPlay is a dashboard system that allows users to connect their phones to access the phone itself, music, messages and podcasts. The enterprise now allows third party developers to make apps for the system. They include Spotify,CBSRadio, and Pandora.
The integration with the phone means motorists can use Siri while driving. The system will help users concentrate on the road while voicing their commands.
Cupertino’s interest in making its own electric car has long been apparent with rumors circulating since last year. It’s been noticed it has poached clients from Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA), A123 Systems and other engineers for the project. It has also reportedly leased testing grounds for the new car. As always with Apple, the rumors can’t be confirmed.
More recently rumors suggest it has been gathering car related online domains such as Apple.car, Apple.cars, Apple.auto. These could be for the car, or they could just as easily be for CarPlay.
Listing the vehicles that deploy CarPlay, could help buyers choose a car they want, perhaps even with the chance to use their favorite phone too.
