Hulu will be picking up pilots for two new projects. Though the deals are not yet closed, the streaming service is expected to make formal pilot orders soon for “Citizen” from “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, and ’80s-set thriller “When the Street Lights Go On,” which was originally intended to be a feature film a few years back. News came first from Variety.
Marking Gomez-Rejon’s writing debut, along with scribes Josh Pate and Nicholas Schutt, “Citizen” is described as a fresh take on the hero origin story blending elements of magical realism and gritty vigilantism set against the backdrop of a vibrant, “supernaturalized” Los Angeles.
Gomez-Rejon, Pate and Schutt are creators and will serve as exec producers, along with David Kanter, Matt DeRoss and Steve Golin of Anonymous Content, which will produce with Paramount Television.
