Microsoft today said it has acquired SwiftKey, a company that develops software keyboards for Android and iOS devices.
SwiftKey has strong word prediction capabilities, and is often able to suggest not only the word being typed, but what word might come next.
Microsoft said SwiftKey’s technology aligns with its own vision of “personal computing experiences that anticipate our needs versus responding to our commands.”
Microsoft also finds SwiftKey’s use of artificial intelligence and prediction interesting. SwiftKey employees will be added to Microsoft’s roster, where they will continue their work and enhance Microsoft’s own Word Flow software keyboard for Windows.
Microsoft said the SwiftKey app will continue to be available to Android and iOS devices. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
