Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema announced today that director David Frankel’s Collateral Beauty, starring Will Smith, Helen Mirren, Edward Norton, Naomie Harris and Michael Pena, will open in theaters on December 16, 2016, the same date that Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm previously scheduled Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Collateral Beauty centers on a New York advertising executive (Smith) who experiences a deep personal tragedy. His colleagues devise an unconventional plan to break him out of his depression, which works – but not in a way that anyone imagined.
The PalmStar Media and Likely Story project is produced by Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Bard Dorros, along with Allan Loeb, who wrote the script. Palmstar CEO Kevin Frakes will executive produce with Anthony Bregman of Likely Story and Steven Pearl. Smith’s Overbrook will co-produce.
The Chicken Soup for the Soul movie, which Warner Bros. had set for a December 16, 2016 release, will now open sometime in 2017.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Riz Ahmed.
