The PlayStation Vita TV has apparently been discontinued in Japan, according to the product’s official listing on the PlayStation Japan website. The company is no longer going to be shipping new units to retailers in the country but there’s no word on whether the axe is headed to other regions as well or not.
Although a promising concept, the device was off to a rocky start so this doesn’t come as a surprise. According to Media Create, PS TV only sold 185,000 units as of January 2016 since its launch in November 2013. Despite going through several price cuts, it wasn’t meant to be. Sony’s own boss, Shuhei Yoshida, said in June last year that the PS TV is a “hard concept to explain” but that it does have some unique features.
