Adobe is helping those producing content for virtual reality headsets, by adding functions to its Creative Cloud apps aimed at enhancing VR and 360-degree video workflows. Central to the new features, set to arrive in the early summer, Premiere Pro CC will include a VR “field of view” mode that can potentially help video editors work with spherical video, allowing them to see what the viewer would see when pointed in specific directions.
VR videos can be tagged to make services such as YouTube treat them correctly, like automatically showing them in a spherical mode. The editor also offers the ability to switch between monoscopic, stereoscopic, and anaglyph frame layouts, an altered workflow to allow editing to begin while importing video in the background, and new proxy workflows with 8K, HDR, and HFR support.

Lumetri, the color correction toolkit, is being altered to make it easier to color correct footage. Keyboard shortcuts are being added for navigating keyframes in an edit. Lastly, the exporting options to social media now includes Twitter, allowing for videos to be produced with the social network in mind.

Media Encoder, a separate app to Premiere Pro that has deep integration, is adding a media browser panel, along with support for Audition and Character Animator apps. After Effects is gaining a new preview engine for improved playback, GPU-accelerated Lumetri Color effects and Gaussian Blur to speed up render times, and additional 3D exporting options.

Audition CC gains an Essential Sound panel, offering simple and essential controls for an edit, as well as preset saving. Audition can also export video projects with final audio edits directly to Media Encoder.

Character Animator CC adds in a puppet tag panel, which can accelerate animations by quickly assigning assorted trigger behaviors to a project, and switching between different facial profiles. Lastly, Adobe Stock’s integration with other CC apps has been increased, with an updated search system using filters and tags aiming to help users find what they want from a collection of over 50 million images and video clips.
