Google on Friday said its modular phone, called Project Ara, will reach developers during the fourth quarter of this year.
The company delayed the project last summer after running into trouble with the modules. The platform lets people hot-swap various modules, such as cameras, batteries, speakers, and screens. The modules all connect to a central frame.
Google also said it plans to release a version of Project Ara for consumers some time in 2017. Google execs said the company will manufacture the Project Ara phones itself.
