Respawn Dishes on Xbox One and PS4 Free DLC for Titanfall 2

The development team confirmed during E3 that they would be making Titanfall 2 DLC free on all platforms, a big deal in an age where players have had to buy the extra maps and gear included in expansions.

Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella has now clarified his commitment to offering new modes and maps for free and how they hope to do this.

“We still want to provide post launch content because people want it, but it’s not free to do,” Zampella told Gamesrader

“If we’re going to support the game that cost money. 

“we haven’t got everything solved yet so that’s why it’s really hard to talk about it”. 

It appears that fans can expect other microtransactions, such as skins and cosmetics, to be one of the ways in which Titanfall 2 could sustain free content.

The Titanfall 2 team have also teased more on the new six mechs coming to the game, two of which were showcased at EA Play.

 

SCORCH: Short for “Scorched Earth”, Scorch’s primary offensive and defensive weapon is fire. Blunt and direct, Scorch can chain its abilities to force enemies out of cover, or trap them to deal maximum damage.

  • Primary Weapon: T-203 Thermite Launcher – Lethal, single shot thermite projectiles that set ablaze anything within range.

Abilities:

FIREWALL

  • The name says it all – fires a directed wall of thermite in the enemies direction.

TACTICAL: INCENDIARY TRAP

  • Deploys flammable gas canisters which can be triggered by the slightest spark.

DEFENSIVE: HEAT SHIELD

  • Liquifies incoming artillery while dealing damage to nearby enemies.

CORE: FLAME CORE

  • Creates a giant wave of fire that destroys anything in its path.
ION: Laser-focused, the Ion is all about power. With a central energy system that fuels all of its offensive and defensive abilities, the Ion is an effective, tactical force on The Frontier.

  • Primary Weapon: Splitter Rifle – Rapid single-fire energy rifle with the ability to leverage the Ion’s central energy system to fire 3 deadly shots at once.

Abilities:

LASER SHOT

  • Shoulder-mounted, this lethal beam cuts through anything in its way.

TACTICAL: TRIPWIRE

  • Laser triggered explosive mines.

DEFENSIVE: VORTEX SHIELD

  • Absorb incoming fire and redirect it back at the enemy.

CORE: LASER CORE

  • A deadly oversized laser beam fired from the chest of the Ion and capable of stopping anything it its path.

Ronin: Ronin is a hit and run specialist. He can do a lot of damage in short bursts, but his fragility makes it suboptimal to stay in range for long. His speed, combined with Arc Wave’s ability to slow, gives him the tools to get into and out of any fight.

  • Primary Weapon: Leadwall Shotgun – High power, low capacity shotgun that bounces off walls.

Abilities:

ARC WAVE

  • Swiping his sword across the ground, Ronin creates an electric wave that damages and slows enemies hit by it.

TACTICAL: PHASE DASH

  • Ronin dashes in a given direction, temporarily phasing out of the world, avoid incoming fire and creating the element of surprise.

DEFENSIVE: SWORD BLOCK

  • Reduces damage taken. Can be held indefinitely.

CORE: SWORD CORE

  • Empowers his melee and sword abilities, and gives access to new sword attacks.
