Wii U Version of Road Redemption Is Being Re-Evaluated

Road RedemptionThe Wii U port of Road Rash spiritual successor Road Redemption is currently being “re-evaluated”, according to developer DarkSeas Interactive.

The Kickstarter-funded racer – which has sold around 100,000 copies during its spell in Early Access on Steam – was supposed to arrive back in 2014, but DarkSeas is now aiming for October 15th for PC, Mac and Linux, with the Xbox One and PS4 versions following on January 15th 2017. Should the Wii U version still happen, we’d imagine it will be coming later. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions have been canned entirely.

Back in March 2016, DarkSeas admitted that the Wii U version was in doubtful, but in April a second statement was issued to reconfirm the studio’s commitment to the console.
Here’s what developer Ian Fisch had to say about the new release date, and the news regarding the cancellation of the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions:

We decided that since our backers have had access to regularly-patched PC, Mac, and Linux beta versions of the game, that it’s better to take our time and release something great, than to feel pressured to stick to our 2014 Kickstarter date and release something mediocre. We’ve seen Kickstarted games like Armikrog and Mighty No. 9 release before they were ready, and I don’t think that satisfies anyone.

What happened with Mighty No. 9 shows that a potentially great game can be dragged down by trying to bring it to too many platforms. By putting the focus on PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, and PS4, we can maximise Road Redemption’s physics, AI, and visuals, rather than be hamstrung by trying to support lower spec machines.
