Lionsgate has released the debut trailer for Damien Chazelle‘s contemporary musical La La Land, which stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone (reuniting after Crazy Stupid Love and Gangster Squad), with recent Academy Award-winner J.K. Simmons playing a character called “Boss,” as well as Jessica Rothe, Sonoya Mizuno and Callie Hernandez playing Stone’s roommates. Check out the La La Land trailer below, along with the cover art for the film’s first single, “City of Stars!”
Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Chazelle (Whiplash), the film tells the story of Mia (Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.
Chazelle wrote the script and is directing the film, with Fred Berger, Gary Gilbert, Jordan Horowitz and Marc Platt producing. Summit will release La La Land in theaters on December 16, 2016.
