Adding to the mounting suspense of the mysterious theme for “American Horror Story” Season 6, FX released a new teaser for the upcoming season on the show’s Facebook page Friday afternoon.
This time around, the black-and-white teaser features a woman in a white gown heading up the stairs holding a candle. But she’s not alone. As she makes her way up the stairs, a shadow, which is very reminiscent of 1922’s “Nosferatu,” appears and creeps up the Facebook announcement and into the image and pulls on her braid.
This latest teaser comes just days after FX boss John Landgraf revealed at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that every single “AHS” teaser released thus far has been adding to the mystery — only one of the final teasers is an accurate depiction of the Season 6 theme, while the others are just to throw off viewers.
“We decided that it would just be really this year we just thought it would be really fun to keep it a mystery this year. And we are,” Landgraf said at TCA. “They went out and made many more trailers than you’ve actually seen for hypothetical seasons of ‘American Horror Story.’ One of them is accurate.”
So, could this new teaser be offering a true depiction of the Season 6 theme? Or is it just another piece of the mysterious puzzle, which already includes many teases that feature a farmhouse, a man getting his head stapled, a crib, running down stairs into darkness and bugs? Viewers will have to wait until the Sept. 14 premiere to see.
