Disney will Friday release its first Chinese-made feature documentary under the ‘Disneynature’ label. The picture, “Disneynature: Born in China” takes a look at the spectacular wildlife and natural beauty that is unique to China, including rare footage of endangered snow leopards and giant pandas.
The film is directed by top feature film director Lu Chuan, who started his feature career with the very outdoor picture “Kekexili: Mountain Patrol.” Other credits go to Disney’s Roy Conley and Chinese actress Zhou Xun, who narrated the Chinese version.
The film will be released in North America in April next year on ‘Earth Day” (April 22, 2017.)
“Born” was itself born of a growing relationship between Disney in China and the Shanghai Media Group. The two companies now have a kids entertainment deal with SMG’s BesTV unit, and a script and talent development fund.
Disney opened its first mainland Chinese theme park in Shanghai in June this year. Earlier this week it was reported that the Shanghai Disney Resort has welcomed its millionth paying visitor.
