The Commuter cast grew today as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Lionsgate and StudioCanal have set Patrick Wilson to star in the Jaume Collet-Serra thriller. The thriller, which reteams Neeson with the Unknown, Non-Stop and Run All Night helmer, also reteams Wilson with his The Conjuring franchise co-star, Vera Farmiga. Farmiga joined The Commuter cast back in June, herself having previously worked with Collet-Serra on 2009’s Orphan.
In The Commuter, Neeson plays a businessman whose daily commute home gets him caught up in a criminal conspiracy as he learns of a deadly plan unfolding on the train. Farmiga will play a mysterious woman who gives Neeson an enticing and deadly offer, while Wilson will play a friend of the businessman.
Wilson starred earlier this year in the Warner Bros. Pictures horror sequel The Conjuring 2 and in Gonzalo López-Gallego’s indie crime thriller The Hollow Point, in addition to making a small cameo in Zack Snyder‘s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as the voice of the President of the United States. Wilson can also be seen later this year in both the thriller A Kind of Murder and starring opposite Michael Keaton in The Founder, John Lee Hancock’s biopic of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc.
The screenplay for The Commuter hails from Byron Willinger and Phil de Blasi. The feature film is now in production, targeting a 2017 release. The Picture Company’s Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman are producing, with Serra executive producing along with his Ombra Films partner Juan Sola.
