Apple today invited members of the media to a special event on Sept. 7 in San Francisco that will likely include the launch of its next-gen iPhones.
As is typical of Apple event invitations, this one was light on details, with a simple out-of-focus light pattern above the text. Its headline simply reads “See you on the 7th,” and the invitation makes no mention of the iPhone or any other Apple product.
In recent years, Apple has unveiled major updates to its smartphone line in early September. The company’s current flagship iPhone 6s, for example, was announced last year on Sept. 9. But it mixed things up earlier this year with a March event for the iPhone SE$399.99 at Verizon Wireless.
The date is not exactly a surprise. Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reported earlier this month that Apple would peel back the curtain on its new iPhone—rumored to be called the iPhone 7—on Sept. 7.
