EW reports that Supergirl has added another adversary to its upcoming second season with Frederick Schmidt as Metallo. The TV version of the character is described a follows:
“When international assassin John Corben is badly injured after taking on both Supergirl and Superman, he is reborn by a shadow organization into the Kryptonite-powered supervillain Metallo.”
First appearing in 1959’s Action Comics #252, Metallo has gone toe-to-toe with the Man of Steel on multiple occasions. Different versions of the character have different abilities, but recently the character has been able to absorb any metal and make it part of his exo-skeleton to make himself a gigantic swiss army knife of pain. The character is set to appear in at least two episodes this season, starting with the premiere episode.
Kara has left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant in order to figure out what she really wants to do, while as Supergirl she continues to work at the DEO, protecting the citizens of National City and searching for Jeremiah and Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) to battle new villains, as she strives to balance her personal life with her life as a superhero.
Benoist leads the cast of Supergirl as the title character alongside Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane (sister of Lois), David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Peter Facinelli as Maxwell Lord, with Dean Cain and Helen Slater. Supergirl season two is also adding recurring roles for Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor, Floriana Lima as Maggie Sawyer, Lynda Carter as the President of the United States, and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
Supergirl airs at 8/7c p.m. Mondays on The CW.
