According to Variety, rising Swedish star Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Florence Foster Jenkins) is in talks to join 20th Century Fox‘s P.T. Barnum biopic The Greatest Showman on Earth. The actress will join leading man Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams and Zendaya in Hollywood’s first original studio musical in over two decades. She will be playing a Swede, opera singer Jenny Lindhe.
The Greatest Showman on Earth, scripted by Sex in the City writer Jenny Bicks, offers a musical take on the life of P.T. Barnum, specifically focusing on the creation of his three-ring circus and his infatuation with “Swedish Nightingale” Jenny Lind.
Hugh Jackman, who recently filmed his final X-Men franchise appearance in the still-untitled Wolverine 3, will himself produce The Greatest Showman on Earth alongside Laurence Mark and Chernin Entertainment. Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) penned the screenplay.
Ferguson will next be seen in The Girl on the Train opposite Emily Blunt, and is currently filming Life with Ryan Reynolds.
