Teased during the summer, the PLAYMOBIL Ghostbusters have now been revealed by the popular German toy company. Check out an animated holiday short in the player below that offers a first look at designs for Egon Spengler, Ray Stanz, Peter Venkman, Winston Zedmore and even Slimer. The PLAYMOBIL Ghostbusters toys, the company’s first product line ever to include licensed playsets inspired by famous entertainment properties, will hit store shelves in February.
The PLAYMOBIL Ghostbusters will be out to save “the world in miniature,” as the PLAYMOBIL universe of 30 different play themes is often called. The toy line will bring the iconic Ghostbusters to life at home, enabling kids to create their own stories starring their favorite characters.
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Sony Pictures to launch this new range of toys,” said Silke Heinrich, Member of the Executive Board at PLAYMOBIL when the announcement was made earlier this year. “The Ghostbusters sets will enrich our play system and enable an entirely new play experience. This licensed line of toys is an important milestone for our brand, which will make new and long-standing fans even more excited about PLAYMOBIL. It’s like building a bridge between kids and their parents, who both love the epic stories of their PLAYMOBIL and Ghostbusters heroes.”
A PLAYMOBIL movie is, meanwhile, in development and is set to be directed by Disney veteran Lino DiSalvo and produced by the team behind The Little Prince (Aton Soumache, Dimitri Rassam, Alexis Vonarb) along with Axel Von Maydell (Morgen Studios) and Moritz Borman. Open Road Films will release the movie nationwide in the U.S. on January 18, 2019. It is the first release to claim that weekend.
PLAYMOBIL was developed in cooperation with Pathé France and will be sold internationally by Lionsgate and Wild Bunch.
