While the film still has a release date of June 29, 2018, Sony Pictures is in need of a new Barbie actress. Trainwreck star Amy Schumer, who became attached to the Mattel comedy last December, has exited the film due to a scheduling conflict. Variety has the news, reporting that Schumer’s promotional tour for the upcoming 20th Century Fox comedy Snatched has forced her to vacate the role.
“Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to ‘Barbie’ due to scheduling conflicts,” Schumer says in a statement to the trade. “The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”
Schumer was to play a misfit living in a land of perfect Barbies who comes to the real world where her being/looking different turns into an asset.
