Whiplash star Miles Teller is set to star in the upcoming original Amazon drama series Too Old to Die Young, according to Deadline. The entire series will be directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, who is known for his work on films like The Neon Demon, Only God Forgives, Valhalla Rising (writer and director) and Drive (director). Refn wrote the series with comic book writer Ed Brubaker.
Too Old to Die Young, “explores the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles by following killers’ existential journeys in becoming samurai,” according to the site. Teller will play Martin, a police officer who is “entangled in the world of assassins.”
“I’m a huge fan of Nic’s work, so the opportunity to work with him, and for a company like Amazon, with this type of material is very exciting,” he said. In addition to the Academy Award-winning film Whiplash, Teller is known for his acting work in films like 2013’s The Spectacular Now, the Divergent series, 2015’s Fantastic Four and 2016’s War Dogs with Jonah Hill and Bradley Cooper. Teller has a couple films coming up, including Granite Mountain, which will hit theaters on September 22, and the PTSD film Thank You for Your Service, based on the 2013 based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name by David Finkel.
Amazon Studios currently has a number of series in the works, including David O. Russell’s mafia drama with Julianne Moore and Robert De Niro, Matthew Weiner’s The Romanoffs, and Barry Jenkins’ Underground Railroad.
