Universal Pictures and Good Universe have added Mike Colter to their Extinction cast. Variety reports that the Marvel’s Luke Cage star will join Michael Peña (Ant-Man, Crash), Lizzy Caplan (Now You See Me 2, Allied) and Israel Broussard (The Bling Ring) in the upcoming sci-fi thriller. Directed by Ben Young (Hounds of Love), the film is written by Eric Heisserer alongside Spenser Cohen (upcoming Moonfall) and Bradley Caleb Kane (STARZ’s Black Sails).
Extinction stars Peña as a man who must save his family from some kind of otherworldly phenomenon. Colter’s specific role in the story has not yet been revealed.
Extinction will be produced by Todd Lieberman & David Hoberman of Mandeville (The Fighter, Beauty and the Beast). Mandeville’s Alexander Young will executive produce, alongside Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake, Erin Westerman and Kelli Konop of Good Universe (Don’t Breathe). Look for it to hit the big screen January 26, 2018.
Colter, who will return to Netflix‘s corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the upcoming crossover series The Defenders, is also well known for roles on series like The Good Wife and The Following. On the big screen, Colter has appeared in films like Clint Eastwood’s Million Dollar Baby, Barry Sonnenfeld’s Men in Black III and Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty.
