Nicolas Pesce (The Eyes of My Mother) has joined The Grudge reboot as both a writer and director for Ghost House Pictures, according to Deadline.
Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cruel Intentions) starred in the 2004 American version as an exchange student who moves to Tokyo and finds herself tormented by spirits of the dead. Gellar returned for a 2006 sequel, but not for the third film, which went direct to video.
The Grudge reboot is based on a script from Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train) and will be produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise. Roy Lee, Joe Drake, Doug Davison and Nathan Kahane will executive produce. Erin Westerman and Romel Adam will oversee for Ghost House Pictures.
Pesce is currently working on the feature Piercing that he wrote and is directing. The film stars Mia Wasikowska (The Kids Are All Right, Alice In Wonderland) and Christopher Abbott (A Most Violent Year, Martha Marcy May Marlene).
