Retro fever continues for Nintendo. After announcing the Super Nintendo Classic mini console, the game company is continuing the nostalgia parade by announcing a special edition of the New Nintendo 3DS XL at Gamescom.
Nintendo fans in Japan were lucky to receive a similar Super Famicom-themed New 3DS XL last year in April. This time around, it’s Europe receiving this lovingly designed variation of the device. You may notice that the face buttons share the four bright colors of the European SNES, compared to the American SNES with its purple and light purple buttons. There has been no word from Nintendo of America as of yet on whether a similar edition will hit Stateside.
Admittedly, “New 3DS XL – Super Nintendo Entertainment System Edition” is far from the shortest or catchiest name Nintendo has come up with for a product. Still, European Nintendo geeks both new and old should enjoy having this neat-looking 3DS in their hands by Oct. 13. Meanwhile, the SNES Classic will hit both the U.S. and U.K. on Sept. 29.
