Anthony Mackie (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and Kian Lawley (Before I Fall) are set to round out the cast of The Hate U Give, the upcoming adaptation of Angela Thomas’ critically-acclaimed novel at Fox 2000.
Amandla Stenberg plays Starr Carter, a young woman caught between her rich and mostly white prep school, and the poor and mostly black neighborhood where she lives.
Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer, and what she says could not only upend her community, but endanger her life.
Mackie will play the local drug dealer King. Kian will play Starr’s boyfriend, Chris. Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby, Issa Rae, Sabrina Carpenter, Algee Smith, Lamar Johnson, and Common also star.
