Facebook recently made its data-saving, lightweight Messenger Lite application available to Android users in the U.S. The app has primarily been available in emerging markets where metered data connections are the norm.
Messenger Lite is less than 10 MB to install on most handsets so its loads fast, runs efficiently, and uses less mobile data. The app was built to function under adverse network conditions, and allows people to send one-on-one or group messages, make voice calls, as well as send photos, videos, and links.
Facebook Messenger Lite does not include advanced features, such as Facebook Stories, and it strips out features such as events and birthdays.
It is free to download from the Google Play Store.
