The upcoming sequel to last year’s Suicide Squad may serve as the introductory feature to Dwayne Johnson’s super-villain Black Adam.
The Wrap says according to insiders, the current plan for the sequel is for the members of Suicide Squad to be tasked with tracking down a weapon of mass destruction. Black Adam who is the main nemesis of superhero Shazam in the DC Comics will be that weapon.
Johnson has spent nearly a decade attached to the role but it has also long been confirmed that the character will NOT be appearing in the “Shazam!” movie and will get his own standalone film first – that film still has no writer or director attached.
Back in May Johnson teased:
“We have a really cool surprise for Black Adam that I can’t reveal, in terms of where we will see Black Adam being introduced.”
This suggests the idea of him appearing in the ‘Squad’ follow-up has been brewing for months.
Suicide Squad 2 is scheduled to begin production in October next year with Gavin O’Connor likely to pen and direct.
