While the second season was released just over a week ago, talk is already going strong about the third season of Netflix’s Stranger Things and are wondering where the story will go.
Series creators the Duffer Brothers have already begun to hint at what we can expect in the next visit to Hawkins, Matt Duffer telling Indiewire the plan is to be more intimate and more character-driven than the second:
“It’s not necessarily going to be bigger in scale. What I am really excited about is giving these characters an interesting journey to go on… something almost weirdly more intimate.”
The new season is expected to experience a time jump which will help deal with the show’s central stars all getting noticeably older, and will once again be approached more like a long movie as opposed to an episodic series:
“What’s fun to me is that we can make movies but we are no longer restricted by this two-hour timeframe. It gives us this bigger canvas to paint on. It opens up all sorts of new storytelling possibilities.”
In a separate interview with Collider, producer and director Shawn Levy revealed that more scenes were conceived to build a link between the second and third seasons, but those were ultimately axed:
“There were epilogue scenes that were considered for after that [final] shot that would have hinted more at Season 3. But there was a decision made by all of us where we said let’s not back in to any promises again. We always felt after Season 1 that we had to payoff that slug that Will coughs up in the sink, or whose black car Hopper was getting into, and had to – and wanted to – follow-up on Hopper putting the Eggos out in a wooden lockbox in the woods. This time the [Duffer Brothers] very consciously wanted to promise less, so that their freedom is more.”
The second season’s breakout star, Priah Ferguson as Erica, is expected back for the third season which is aiming to air sometime in late 2018.
