In unprecedented news, Sony Pictures and director Ridley Scott will cut Kevin Spacey entirely out of the upcoming J. Paul Getty drama All the Money in the World.

Christopher Plummer has been hired to replace Spacey in the role of J. Paul Getty and Plummer will film all of Spacey’s scenes in reshoots in the upcoming weeks. Spacey’s role, though integral, was supposedly only 8-10 days of filming according to Deadline.

Scott reportedly made the decision on his own and notified the studio this afternoon according to THR. Plummer was reportedly Scott’s original choice to play the part but the studio wanted a bigger name. The current version of the film hadn’t yet screened.

The film follows the kidnapping of sixteen-year-old John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother Gail (Michelle Williams) to convince his billionaire grandfather (Spacey) to pay the ransom.

When Getty Sr. refuses, Gail attempts to sway him as her son’s captors become increasingly volatile and brutal. With her son’s life in the balance, Gail and Getty’s advisor (Mark Wahlberg) become unlikely allies in the race against time that ultimately reveals the true and lasting value of love over money.

The film is still expected to hit cinemas on December 22nd.
