Previously going by the name God Particle, the new Cloverfield film has been pushed back to April 20th this year. At last report the film was aiming for a February 2nd release but there had been no promotional photos or trailers released as of now.
Discussing Film has spoken with actress Elizabeth Debicki’s reps who confirmed the film will no longer release in February and no updated release date was currently set. Now, Slashfilm has confirmed with Paramount the new date of April.
The film was initially announced as a February 24th 2017 release, and then was pulled so it could undergo some reshoots supervised by producer J.J. Abrams. The next date was mid-October last year, then the February 2018 release and now April.
Debicki co-stars with Daniel Bruhl, Aksel Hennie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O’Dowd, John Ortiz, David Oyelowo and Zhang Ziyi in the project which is the feature directorial debut of Julius Onah. Prior to the reshoots, the story followed a team of astronauts aboard an international space station who find themselves alone after a scientific experiment involving a particle accelerator makes the entire Earth vanish.
Expect the marketing to begin later this month or early February at the latest. 10 Cloverfield Lane famously didn’t reveal its title or begin its marketing until exactly two months out from release – but was helped along by a superb trailer that got people excited.
