Madonna has been announced as director of Taking Flight, a film based on Michaela and Elaine DePrince’s memoir of the same name, at MGM. Camilla Blackett (Fresh Off the Boat, New Girl) will adapt the screenplay.
Michaela DePrince was an orphan in war-torn Sierra Leone who overcomes great odds to become a world famous ballerina and currently a soloist at the Dutch National Ballet.
Madonna made her directing debut on Filth and Wisdom and followed it up with W.E.. She remains attached to Loved about an artist’s relationship with her gay twin brother, and produced the doc I Am Because We Are about Malawi’s orphans in the wake of the AIDS pandemic.
A production start date has not yet been announced.
