ABC has decided to cancel its very successful Roseanne revival following star Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet Tuesday.

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said Tuesday.

The latest tweet caused a huge outcry in social media, which played into the decision by ABC to cancel the show. This is first time the network has taken action in response to one of Barr’s controversial tweets since the show returned to its offerings.

The reboot debuted as a nine-episode midseason show and was  TV season’s No. 1 scripted series on all of broadcast television. Roseanne had been averaging a 5.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 19.3 million viewers with live-plus-three day.

Roseanne would have returned in the fall for an expanded 13 episodes 11th season.

ABC now heads into the 2018-19 broadcast season without TV’s number one series, and needs fill the leadoff slot for Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. The network also showrunner Shonda Rhimes, who exited last year for a deal with Netflix earlier.
