Several key new release date changes have been announced in the last few days.
First up, Annapurna Pictures have set an April 19th 2019 release for Missing Link, the fifth feature from Oscar-nominated animation studio LAIKA (Kubo and the Two Strings, Paranorman, Coraline) which follows the last living remnant of Man’s primitive ancestry (Zach Galifianakis) who enlists the help of a myth debunker (Hugh Jackman) to find the fabled valley of Shangri-La.
Next, Michael Moore has set a September 21st release date for Fahrenheit 11/9, his upcoming documentary feature focused on President Donald Trump. The title harkens back to his 2004 film Fahrenheit 9/11 which took aim at then President George W. Bush.
Aviron has delayed the British crime drama Three Seconds by six months to a February 1st 2019 release. Joel Kinnaman, Rosamund Pike, Clive Owen and Common lead the cast in the story of a former black ops soldier turned FBI undercover informant rising through the ranks of the Polish mob drug trade in New York.
Magnolia has announced a whole slew of release dates for this year including Cannes winner “Shoplifters” for November 23rd, Danish emergency response thriller The Guilty for October 19th, the Regina Hall-led comedy Support the Girls for August 24th, the female-led Skate Kitchen for August 10th, and the Velvet Underground singer biopic Nico, 1988 for August 1st.
Gravitas Ventures has acquired all U.S. rights to Jason DeVan’s Along Came the Devil (previously titled Tell Me Your Name) with plans for a theatrical and on demand release on August 10th. Said to be inspired by true events, Heather DeVan and Dylan Matlock penned the script about a young woman who, after a troubled childhood, unwittingly invites in a demonic force. Sydney Sweeney, Jessica Barth, Matt Dallas, Madison Lintz and Bruce Davison star.
Orion Pictures has set a February 8th 2019 release for the supernatural horror thriller The Prodigy (previously titled Descendant). Taylor Schilling and Jackson Robert Scott co-star in the story of a mother who is concerned about her young son’s disturbing behavior and starts to think that something supernatural may be affecting him. Nicholas McCarthy helms from a script by Jeff Buhler.
Universal Pictures has set a November 21st release date for the Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali-led road trip movie Green Book from helmer Peter Farrelly. Mortensen plays an Italian-American bouncer with a seventh-grade education hired to drive a world-class pianist on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South in 1962.
Due to that film’s date lock, the Steve Carell-starrer Welcome to Marwen has been moved to December 21st. Carell plays a man who survives a vicious assault by a group of “Nazi thugs” that wipes away all of his memories and leaves him physically shattered. Instead of giving up, he put together pieces from his old and new life and meticulously creates a wondrous town where he can heal and be heroic.
Finally the faith-based indie sequel Unbroken: Path To Redemption has been moved up three weeks and now opens September 14th. The film will continue the Louis Zamperini story, following the second half of the war hero and athlete’s life, with Harold Kronk directing and Samuel Hunt playing Zamperini.
