Google has made the Google Photos Library API available to developers. Google first detailed the API back in May and has been testing it the last few months.
The Google Photos API allows third-party app developers and device makers to add Google Photos to their own apps and services. The idea is to make it easier for people to access their Google Photos from myriad devices, not just from their phone or computer. Google says developers can use the API to let users connect, upload, and share photos from within their app. It lets people search for photos based on subject, location, and description, as well as take actions such as organize albums, add titles, and collaborate with others. The API uses machine learning so end users can put smart filters to work within third-party apps to fine-tine searches.
Google says features like thumbnails and cross-platform deep links are fully supported. Developers can find the API and its documentation via Google’s developer portal.
