Nintendo announced the start date for its long-awaited online service: Sept. 18. More details about the Nintendo Switch Online program will come tomorrow, Sept. 13, during the company’s latest Direct presentation.
Although the service offers several subscription tiers, including monthly and yearly, all Switch owners can first try it out free. A one-week trial will launch alongside the service on Sept. 18 and will be accessible through Nintendo Switch eShop.
The Nintendo Switch Online service will be required for console owners to access any internet-enable features, including multiplayer and, most excitingly, cloud saves. It will also grant them the ability to play 20 different Nintendo Entertainment System games at launch, although Nintendo hasn’t revealed the entire lineup yet.
All activity will be managed through the Online app, which is already available to download on iOS and Android devices. It doesn’t have the best user interface.
