Jean-Marc Vallee (Dallas Buyers Club, Big Little Lies) is set to direct a new biopic about legendary Beatles frontman John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono in the works at Universal Pictures and Immersive Pictures.
Vallee was previously atop the shortlist for the next James Bond film, but he took himself out of the running to do this film instead. He will direct, edit and do a script polish.
Ross says in a statement:
“We are all huge Beatles fans, and this is a dream come true. There were inner and outer struggles John had, and family turmoil as a child, and things she had to endure before John’s tragic death. The thing we loved about the script was its stark honesty. You see so many biopic scripts where you can see that the cooperation of the subject’s family had something to do with the editorial, and that wasn’t the case here.”
Anthony McCarten (Bohemian Rhapsody, Darkest Hour) will pen the script while Yoko Ono herself will produce along with McCarten, Valle, Michael De Luca, Josh Bratman and Nathan Ross.
There’s no release date set as yet.
