Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay (Selma, A Wrinkle in Time) has announced she’s working on a new documentary about the late iconic musician Prince for Netflix reports Deadline.
Before he passed away in April 2016, Prince reportedly reached out to DuVernay directly about working together, and now. Prince’s estate has specifically chosen her to make the film which quietly began production earlier this year.
The estate has reportedly granted her full access to the vast treasure trove of archives recordings and unreleased material by the prolific musician, Oscar winner and eight-time Grammy recipient.
DuVernay, editor Spencer Averick and other members of her core production team have visited Prince’s Paisley Park home and studios repeatedly over the past several months while she’s been concurrently working on the four-part drama Central Park Five for Netflix.
She also signed on for the big-budget screen adaptation of Jack Kirby’s The New Gods”earlier this year.
