Google Maps Begins Showing Speed Traps For Some Users

Google Maps has added another handy new feature. Support for displaying speed traps has begun rolling out in Google Maps. Screenshots shared by one Android user show icons of speed cameras when exploring the map and when driving. And since you shouldn’t be looking at your phone when you’re behind the wheel, Google Maps will also give you an audio cue when you’re driving and approaching a speed trap.

The feature appears to be rolling out slowly to Google Maps users, including a handful of folks on Reddit. There doesn’t seem to be anything you can do to trigger it manually, so if you don’t already see speed traps in your Google Maps, you’ll just have to sit tight until Google activates it for you.

This is the second Waze-like feature we’ve seen to make its way to Google Maps lately, with the other being crash and speed trap reporting. While Google does still offer Waze with features like crash reporting and speed traps, some folks may just prefer Google Maps to Waze, so it’s nice to see these Waze-like features coming to Google Maps and making that app better.
